I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in California (MHC #49616), and was previously licensed in Colorado. I am a Clinical Fellow of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, and am also an AAMFT Approved Supervisor. Beginning in 2015, I am serving a two-year term as the President-Elect for the Association for Family Therapy of Northern California, the oldest family therapy organization in the world. I am also a member of the American Family Therapy Academy, an invitation-only professional association focused on systemic therapy and social justice.
I am a member of Bay Area Open Minds, a group of professionals and students who support sexual and gender diversity in our practices. I also belong to Division 44 of the American Psychological Association, and GAYLESTA, the LBGTQ Psychotherapy Association. I am also a member of the Community-Academic Consortium for Research on Alternative Sexualities (CARAS).
I am listed with Kink Aware Professionals, Fat Friendly Professionals, and Poly Friendly Professionals. I am a supporter of Size Acceptance/Fat Acceptance and Health at Every Size. You can read my listing at Psychology Today if you prefer it to this website.
After a break of several years while teaching full-time, I returned to private practice in 2012. My primary focus is on helping couples and intimate partners have more satisfying, healthy romantic and sexual relationships, but I work with individuals and families as well. I work from a variety of family systems approaches, especially Emotionally Focused Therapy.
My most recent publication is an article in the journal Family Process, titled “Expanding the Therapy Paradigm with Queer Couples: A Relational Intersectional Lens” written with my friend and colleague Dr. Deb Coolhart. I’ve also written chapters in “Multicultural Couple Therapy” and “Clinical Casebook of Couple Therapy.” I also recently published a book review in the journal “Fat Studies.”
